Dervish Hatixhe earned the title Dervish (Saint) for her service to humanity during widespread outbreak of the cholera epidemic around years 1700. Her dedication to saving all lives, demonstrated that her strength did not waver in the face of the abuse from her husband and the death of her children. She raised above her personal hardships to become a community leader, which was an anusual place for women at the time.

 

Dervish Hatixhe, through her strength, her compassion and selfless actions, achieved Spiritual Enlightenment, transforming herself from an ordinary person to a Saint. After her death, the Tekke of Dervish Hatixhe, which encloses her tomb along with her children's, was founded. Her Legacy remains embracing of all people and empowering of women.
